About Duomo di Milano (rooftop)
Work on Milan's cathedral began in 1386 under Archbishop Antonio da Saluzzo, but the Gothic design outlived generations of builders and patrons; the final bronze doors weren't fitted until 1965, nearly six centuries later. Napoleon forced a shortcut in 1805, ordering the unfinished façade completed within seven years so he could be crowned King of Italy inside. Today the rooftop terraces, ringed by more than 3,400 marble statues and over 135 spires, look out over central Milan.
