About The Shard
The Shard, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano, opened its public observation deck on February 1, 2013, standing 309.6 metres tall and becoming the tallest building in the United Kingdom and Western Europe. The 95-storey pyramidal tower is clad in eight sloping glass facades that resemble shards of glass, earning it its name. The View from The Shard observation deck, occupying the 72nd floor at 244 metres, features both an enclosed gallery and open-air observation areas offering 360-degree views across London.
