About Cerro Torre
Cerro Torre rises 3,128 metres from the Southern Patagonian Icefield as a vertical granite spire composed of the same superb rock as Fitz Roy. The peak is built from granite so strong and uniform that it sustains vertical and overhanging walls few rock types could support. The first recorded ascent came in 1974 by Casimiro Ferrari's 'Ragni di Lecco' team via the West Face. A disputed 1959 claim by Cesare Maestri lacks supporting evidence and remains one of mountaineering's most controversial ascents.
